Interim VAT Compliance Manager

Client
Our client is a US MNC, active in the distribution of IT hardware (and some software). The company is located with its procurement and warehousing / distribution over Europe in the south of Germany, Munich, but has its EMEA HQ in the center of the Netherlands. Because of a leaver per 1 July 2015, the company is looking for an interim replacement.

Responsibilities and Activities

  • Taking care of the VAT compliance for the German organization (largest organization in Europe). There are many VAT registrations throughout Europe, but the German compliance part is the focus;
  • Part of the local finance team, 12 pax, directly reporting to the Head of Finance in Germany, who in his turn reports to the Head of Finance of the DACH countries;
  • This person will be the only one involved in VAT compliance, yet the function is called a manager's position;
  • There are also CIT compliance and CIT management positions in Munich;
  • Dotted line to the Head of Tax in Europe, based in NL;
  • Working in the Central Procurement and Warehouse Hub, with an intricate self-built IT system. This means the VAT compliance manager needs to have IT savviness;
  • Practical in the fact that you are working on the compliance yourself but also are first point of contact to colleagues / business partners (and able to regularly discuss with VAT management or Head of Tax, based in NL);
  • Products are either shipped in, stocked in the warehouse and then spread over multiple European countries, or products will be delivered directly from suppliers to their customers; in total there are 6 - 8 types of transactions possible and need to be managed with regards to the VAT compliance;
  • Current VAT compliance manager will leave per 1/7, so a start before 1/7 is very much wanted;
  • There is a possibility that the interim VAT compliance manager will also be working on the creation of a Shared Service Center (SSC), meaning the VAT function will be integrated into the larger administrative organization;
  • Even though the organization is a bit formal, rejuvenating the organization is currently on its way.
  • Length of the assignment is difficult to say, but probably at least 3 months;

Personal Profile
As an interim manager, you should have at least 5 years' experience working in VAT compliance. Moreover, experience in an international context is important.

Also you have/ you are:

  • Good German language skills;
  • Good communication skills as you are the first point of contact regarding VAT questions, both for colleagues and suppliers / clients;
  • An interim should be experienced to be able to gain trust from the German Head of Finance quickly;
  • Open to different cultures;
  • Can travel to and from Germany regularly;
  • Strong as a business partner and hands on mentality.
